Terry is writing this series the way a series should be written. There's a great overarching storyline that is pulling you through and several smaller stories within that are in each book. She wraps up all the stories within nicely.

This book is a true page turner and the author does a fantastic job of putting you inside Kyla's head. You go through their story from her perspective and can really feel her struggles with the memories. This is such an underrated book and I really wish more people knew about it. There's a lot going on but they all intertwine and her reactions to everything are realistic but not predictable.

All in all I give this book a very strong 5 stars, as a stand-alone and as a continuation in a series. She nailed it!

Loved this book. The action and drama kept my attention. Couldn’t put it down.
I liked the first one slightly better but not by much. They both had there merits but the writing style of this one annoyed me. All her sentences were short and choppy (yes I know this is to be expected for a YA novel) and sometimes a bit nonsensical. Example "his voice was cold. Not just cool but glacial." Really? Was it like this in the first book and I just noticed it less? Everything just seemed kind of disjointed and jumped quickly from scene to scene like I was being dragged quickly uphill in order to see the "exciting parts" waiting on the other side. It did not have the same flow to the storyline as the first did. Also, how many times can Kyla's (or Rain's, as the case may be) resolve "harden". Her resolve for the cause would harden and then become wishy washy and harden again three times in one chapter! It was also a bit baffling how many characters would be seemingly on the "wrong side" and then magically be on the "right side" and visa versa and then sometimes switch again. An example being that at the beginning her dad was nice and her mom was cranky and untrustworthy and then somehow the gears shifted and her dad was the threatening one and her mom was the one that was "understanding". I realize she was trying to figure out who to trust and who not and maybe the author didn't want you to know for sure who the bad and good guys were but A LOT of her characters were this way. What is it that made Kyla trust them one minute and not the next and then trust them again? Nothing that I could see. It got a little annoying how often she "suddenly wanted to tell it all" but "No. Danger." I know most of these things are just nit picky things but when things like this repeat so often, they distract from the storyline. Plus most of it was very predictable. So for a story that I only found to be okay in the first place, this was not an amazing addition. I will however read the third one since I have already read the first two.
The story was good, I had a hard time putting down the book, I can't wait for the next one in April! I started reading this series due to my tween wanting to read them and I like to read them first when not sure if she should due to her age. She will be allowed to read this one and I'm sure she will really like it. It keeps you guessing the whole way through.
This is an amazing trilogy and quite appropriate for most readers. A Scholastic representative informed me that is was a dystopian read for fans of that type of literature. If you, too, like dystopian literature, this is a great, clean read.

I love how this book is very captivating right from before it began. "Slated" left so many unanswered questions that were intriguingly unraveled throughout the book. The connection that Teri creates with the reader and Kyla is incredible. You could feel all of her emotions, whether they were confusion, anger, happiness, or sadness. With her memories slowly revealing themselves, and other people's sides of the story, it was up to Kyla to figure out her past all by herself. Teri's writing skills are indescribable. She is excellent because she knows how to keep the reader from turning the pages.
This series gets you hooked, then attempts to funnel the authors political views into your brain. So tired of this.
