Originally, this was published in 1999 and was one of the authors earlier works. There is a very strong and multifaceted plot that embroils a young lobbyist named Faith. Faith has been trained and works for one of the most prominent, well-known lobbyists in Washington, Danny Buchanan. Faith loves working in Washington and doing the multitude of tasks her job requires no matter the long hours. Danny however is getting to the point where he is thinking of retiring and is getting tired of the amount of energy his job requires.
However, Danny has become entangled with a man who is putting pressure on Danny. Because of this, Faith notices how much her boss has changed. In fact, he has asked her to leave the firm. She is heartbroken because he is like a father to her. Because of Faith’s past, all she has ever wanted was a home and stability. Now, to help them both get freedom from the man behind Danny’s trouble, Faith has sought help from the FBI. What happens next is what she never saw coming!
The author’s story is heart pounding and he keeps readers interested because there is more than one mystery going on at different points in the tale. I like his books because of the depth of the characters, stories and constant riveting tension in the plot. Unlike his later offerings with a few exceptions there are a couple scenes that weren’t enjoyable to read because of the content, though I was thankful that the author wasn’t as descriptive or revealing as other authors seem to be. In the story, there are a few cuss words but knowing ahead of time it isn’t a Christian book, I don’t let that deter me. I just gloss over the words.
So why read the book? I read it because the synopsis really did grab my attention and I did enjoy more than 3/4ths of the book. The other reason I read various books is sometimes to discover what other reviewers haven’t stated is in the novel as well as to see if the author’s tale has merit. If you don’t like reading books with some of these various additions I stated earlier, then pass this one up. If you do like these types of high stakes, thrilling books and would like to see more just without the negative stuff in it, write a short review on Amazon to let the author know of your interest and thoughts. Many authors read reviews and take to heart what readers want or in this case would like to see left out of the future books.
I like being able to hopefully positively influence authors, reviewers and readers alike by writing my thoughts about a book. Why not write your thoughts on a review and share them?

The take-away thought - " REMEMBER J, Edgar Hoover who had files on almost everyone....This must not happen ever again." If a secret society of True Patriots dislikes the CIA, they can recruit insider-followers from all levels of public and private organizations. They can kill off those who refuse to cooperate. Danny Buchanan and Faith Lockhart, talented and philanthropic (well, sort of benevolent) lobbyists all but die in opposing the True Patriots. Between this novel by David Baldacci and Joseph Finder's THE SWITCH, a reader might fear the near future.
I gave this book 4 stars because I did like it - most of the time. There were several pages and even a chapter or two that added nothing to the story and would not have been missed if they had been removed from the book altogether. Baldacci is so good at writing about government corruption and who spies on who but I felt he went off the track in many places. When he got back to the actual story of trying to save the life of Faith, the story was quite good. There were several times when I couldn't figure out who was bad and who was good! All in all, a good story with some interesting characters but entirely too long with too much "fluff".
I like the way David Baldacci writing but this book, Saving Faith, was NOT one of his best works. The END GAME was the worst I've read from him. In this book Will Robie, starts the book with professionalism and excitement and the book changes to a unprofessional operatives, who reminds me of "the blind leading the blind." The End Game was so, so disappointing. WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU DAVID? THE TARGET, THE HIT, were great but you changed your writing style as to lead the reader one step at a time as if the reader is stupid. Professional Military Spy , like Will Robie, was viewed as a imbecile and his female partner just as bad. I gave this book, The End Game, two star and that was only because the begining of the book was great.
Ugh - I am having trouble getting through the audio book. The story line surrounding the main character (Faith) is unbelievably sexist. Within a few chapters Faith meets a man she must rely on. Within 3 paragraphs of their meeting the man gets annoyed at her FOR ASKING QUESTIONS ABOUT HER SAFETY AND WHO HE IS. what the heck... a woman who has the GALL to ask a man with a gun what he is planning is portrayed as annoying, bossy, and over all difficult. Then the supposedly strong female character literally loses her ability to think for herself and goes along with the man. WHAT THE HECK. If she's supposed to be a strong, independent, Washington power broker who pro-actively is attempting to bring down the most powerful people in Washington D.C., I would assume she wouldn't be so quick to concede all aspects of her safety to a man that she met ONE hour prior. Also, the tech in the book is super outdated... like late 90's. This book needs a serious re-write.
I have been a huge fan of Baldacci for as long as I can remember, so it pains me to write a poor review. I found this books have no flow and seemed hurried. I felt like the book just catapulted into the drama without giving proper attention to giving the reader character background, so I never felt invested in these characters. Also (spoiler alert) to have the lead male all but rape the lead female and then THE VERY NEXT NIGHT have her "make love" to him was almost enough to make me stop reading. I felt like all the characters were crammed into the story and I didn't feel particularly close to any of them. I typically lose myself in books and am sad when I'm done reading but when I finished Saving Faith it was largely a feeling of 'meh'. Give me more well-written Harry Bosch or Will Robie any day.
